The Parlour car Norman at Warrnambool. It is seen here as part of the West Coast Railway Warrnambool May Racing Carnival 2003 Warrnambool Cup Race special. This carriage was built exclusively for use on the Spirit Of Progress in 1937 it is now available for hire by the general public for use on Special trains on the broad gauge. West Coast Railway is the only mainline operator in Victoria that still run race trains to racing carnivals Race trains where once a common occurrence to grace the Victorian Railways tracks but now except for the Warrnambool line the race train is now a thing of the past. Two Overland sleepers A Former Victorian Railways BRS Snack Bar/Economy 48 seat compartment type sitting car: BRS 225 and another Overland sleeper all now owned by West Coast Railway are shown here stored awaiting possible future restoration in the companies Ballarat East Workshops. BRS 225 was later outshopped from the West Coast Railway Ballarat East Workshops in September 2001 after having undergone a major overhaul as part of a major upgrade of the West Coast Railway Carriage Fleet. This included: Repainting the exterior paint scheme from the V/LINE Tangerine orange and grey paint scheme to the West Coast Railway blue white & grey Livery. (BRS 225 was last given a repaint in the V/LINE Tangerine & Grey Livery in 1992). This major overhaul also involved replacing the original V/LINE brown/orange cloth seat upholstery with the West Coast Railway blue/grey cloth seat upholstery fitting of new West Coast Railway Blue/White curtains and the laying of new grey carpet & installing a new retention toilet in the place of the original drop-chute toilet. · Sandfly? Probabily not. Brian Sneddon had the following to say about this photo - I am all but convinced that it is actually a photo of one of the Baldwins used on the Sorrento tramway in Victoria. There were two of these and I think they ended up on timber lines in Gippsland finally being scrapped after the 1939 fires. The clues are the link and pin coupling and the backdrop which appears to be at a terminus high on the cliffs. It looks like it might be the Sorrento end rather than that at the ocean. There appears to be a pier below and the shadowy hills on the skyline are the right shape for Arthurs Seat which is what you'ld see from there. LRRSA put out a book on this group of locos called something like 'the saga of sandfly and the lost tribe'. (Fred Hercus collection) (mbc_misc_017)
