The B-class 2-4-0 type locomotives were imported from England, being built by R. Stephenson & Co. as tender locomotives, for general service on the South Australian Railways broad gauge system. During 1875-76 they where both rebuilt as well tank locomotives, and later fitted as a crane locomotive.
