The number range 723 through 762 was orginally allocated to narrow gauge flat wagons, which were to have been classified "NRC" (30 feet long) and "NRD" (32 feet long). These wagons were all originally Queensland Railways "H" class open wagons that were transferred to the North Australia Railway during 1941. It appears that intially someone seems to have got the classification wrong thinking, they were flat wagons. The error was soon discovered and all fourty wagons were then classified "NG". The numbers in the range 723 through 757 were not actually used for the "NG" wagons, instead they were allocated numbers in the range 551 through 588 inclusive, less 559 and 567 in January 1941. The smaller range of numbers is accounted for by, four presumed lost by enemy action and one destoryed in derailmentblc
The original Queensland numbers of the wagons were 3830, 3845, 3946, 4197, 4229, 4466, 4931, 4913, 5099, 5539, 5541, 5912, 5930, 5966, 6011, 7904, 10236, 10257, 10259, 10699, 10737, 10775, 11059, 11137, 11166, 11181, 11182, 11996, 12009, 12014, 12015, 12119, 13522, 14600 and 15758 all of which were 30 foot long. The other five were 32 foot long, three of them being QR numbers 17452, 17461 and 18623.
8.9.1944 - H 3830, 4466, 4931, 15758 were the ones lost to enemy action on 19.2.1942. H 18623 wrecked in derailment on 27.12.1942. H 11059, 12009, 17452, 17462 declared unroadworthy in December 1943 [CR File 6897]
16.5.1945 - ex QR H to be purchased outright for £180 each plus a hire charge of fifteen shillings/wagon per week (less 25%) - a total of £1250.7.2 to be paid up to 31.3.1945 [CR File 6897]
A number of these wagons were converted to carry troops. After conversion they were recoded as "NTB".
All remaining "NG" and "NTB" wagons were recommended for disposal on 2.5.1951 summary of rolling stock.
